When we first found out we were expecting a baby, I decided that I wanted to knit something.
Sure, I knew I was going to make oodles of baby bibs etc, but there is something nice about making something by hand. I decided on this little baby blanket, as I figured that even if it took a little longer than anticipated (I am a super slow knitter), I could still make use of it, whereas I wasn’t sure whether I would be able to knit any item of clothing to a deadline and this can be used for a while!
This is a simple blanket pattern from The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits by Debbie Bliss, and actually is designed to coordinate with the knitted mouse that I have made previously (perhaps I will eventually make the matching mouse for baby M!) Because we didn’t know gender when I started this, way back in month one, I bought neutral colours of Baby Cashmerino from Jimmy Beans Wool.
The colours I used were 340101 (Ecru), 340089 (Sapphire), 340057 (Light Grey), and 340058 (Dark Grey). Â NB. I guess it ended up being San Jose Sharks colours!
It is knitted on 3.25mm Nova Cubics needles, and is pretty much just a garter stitch rectangle, with stitches picked up along the edges for the borders.
I did think that it might take me all nine months to complete, but (un)fortunately I was signed off work for a month and told to sit down and not do anything. So I knitted.
I weaved in the ends this morning, and now it is done! I finished it! Woo!
